Villa Rose was structurally sound, however it needed plenty of tender loving care, modernisation and a return to its original state of grandeur. We started this process in April 2003 and following are some photos of this effort. Before After Renovation of the hallway included repairing crumbling plaster as well as resurrecting a flower border hidden under brown fuzzy wallpaper. This involved removing the glue and plaster on the painting on three floors. The entry foyer had beautiful original paintings which had been partially lost when electricity was added in the walls and ceilings. Many plaster patches obscuring much of the original paintings and areas around the paintings so we tried to refresh the frescos by painting around them with lacquer paint matched to the original background peach color. Before After Every square inch of every wall surface in the villa was covered with wallpaper, including the ceilings and inside of closets, which we have steamed off and included hours of work to remove all the old glue. Some of these rooms took an entire day to steam one wall! I guess you could call this a labor of love! Before After Before After The layout of the villa was perfect to create six distinctive apartments, four on the first two floors each with a lovely living area and a separate bedroom. Before After The entire second floor of the villa had lovely wood floors that were covered with linoleum and a layer of cement. All of this had to all be removed by steaming, scraping and sanding and a lot of sore hands, elbows and knees.
